My dearest Lauren it is the day of your birth,
18 years since you popped into the world,
And writing you this has given me much mirth,
Your lovely blonde hair looks good straight or curled.

Marlene was a bit of a queen,
And teenager and parent alike,
Had antics to turn your hair green,
And scenes that could cause a fright.

There's a big party in honour of you,
And everyone will be dressed up nice,
Cake and booze and great music too,
And dancing long into the night.

So Happy Birthday dear Lauren on the day of your birth,
And let's thank the baby monster for putting you on this earth.

Inspiration: My big blabber mouth and Shakespeare (kinda)
Description: My friend in drama turns 18 today and she's having a big birthday party. As part of her present we recorded a DVD of messages from people wishing her a Happy Birthday, and I was cornered as I came out of English, having been studying Shakespeare for 2 hours, was all inspired and declared that I would write her a sonnet.
I know it's not a sonnet in the true sense of the word, as it's not really about love, but it's about her birthday. Anyhoo, I write and recorded it in about 20 minutes and I'm writing up a paper copy for her too =)
[The second stanza is referring to some of the characters she has played during our A Level drama course.]
